Jelli

About: A project to practice game art including: thinking of a story and game world, creating a character design, objects and obstacles, UI, logo, wireframes, and in-game screenshots. The project started with a loose prompt for the game being set in a post-apocalyptic world and a broad backstory for the character. I then worked on creating a concrete game world and character and building upon them to create something that would actually look like a game. An important part of this project was making every detail intentional and for everything to serve a purpose or tell a story.​

Character design

The character was designed based on a preliminary concept for a backstory and a character personality, which I then iterated upon, added some additional information and made a visual design based on that.

My goal was to make a pretty simple design, which would still have a clear silhouette, personality and elements that would be intentional and would represent the story.

UI, Logo and Wireframes

For this project, I also practiced working on UI, a Logo and designing wireframes. The goal was for the UI to work well and look visually appealing on the game screen as well as the main menu screen. Meanwhile, making the wireframes, even though simple, was good practice fior creating an understandable wireframe scheme. After drawing all the assets, I also made them work in Unity: switch between the different screens based on the wireframes and indicate whenever hovered over.

Environment

The environment that the character lives in was also made based upon the given prompt of it being a post-apocalyptic world and then building upon that and adding my own ideas. I tried to create a place that seemed fun and colorful but was also dangerous and unpredictable. For this part of the project, I drew an in-game screenshot, a main menu screen as well as some objects that could be found in different areas of the game. The main menu screen also incuded various modular elements that I later added some animations to in engine.
